This week our students explored measurement with thermometers, measuring cups, and scales! We ended the week with making puppy chow-they had a great time and were very excited about all the new tools they used.
We compared the temperatures inside and outside. They even left them on the heating vent and ran outside to see how fast it changed.
Here is a view of us cooking-we made a mess, but had fun! Here is the recipe:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 (17.5 ounce) package crispy corn and rice cereal
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Cooking is a great activity to do at home. You can even work on doubling the recipe! Other activities are to look at the weight of items-they used the terms heavy, small, and equal. Talking about the weather and the temperature would help extend their knowledge as well-here is a website for kids and weather: http://www.theweatherchannelkids.com/weather-center/
Here is another fun website with lots of measurement games: http://pbskids.org/games/measurement.html
Thanks for posting the recipe! It was delicious!
